Understanding Prevention

"Prevention" is not just about stopping a "bad" bahavior before it starts (like problem gambling, or drug abuse). Prevention is about creating and fostering conditions that assist people---of all ages---in living healthy and productive lives. The following PowerPoint is a very brief introduction to prevention as understood by the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Problem Gambling Services (PGS). It provides a history of problem gambling prevention efforts at PGS, and definitions of prevention and prevention strategies.

For a brief PowerPoint introduction to two "promising prevention programs" funded by PGS, click on "Two Model Programs" under Prevention in the Table of Contents.
